Sheba
August 1992-July 2006
Sheba was a black chow who was the perfect companion. She wasn't necessarily the most physically affectionate of all my dogs but she was the one most determined to always be near.
Despite the chow reputation, she was actually one of the sweetest creatures to ever see the light of day. But boy, what a bark!! That bark could strike terror into the heart of the mightiest man. For many years she was my protector and companion as I lead her on my many vagabond journeys. Her only request...to be near.... ...and have plenty of milkbones.
Her abilities lessened the last few years but she remained astute at tracking me down. Often I had to sneak out the side door to avoid her demand for my return.
Her last days were very tough for us both. She looked deep into my eyes with her very brave innocence as if trying to understand. Or maybe it was only me trying to understand.
I still see her and hear her..I still step over all the places that she waited, patiently, for my return.
Every night I still visit her with a milkbone.
And I know she frolics now on the green carpets of our ancestors waiting for my return to her.
