Yes he was named after the Grateful Dead Guitar Player who died on August 9, 1995

My baby boy came home to us on August 12, 1995

His daddy was a deadhead and was crushed by the death of Jerry. My wife had the idea of getting a dog and naming him after Jerry. He was born on June 15, 1995, a litter of 3, 2 blacks and one chocolate lab. When we got to the breeder, Garcia ran to my wife, his other black brother ran to me. The Chocolate was taken...I told Sharon I wanted the one I had, she said no, this is the one. And she was right. Boy was she right.

For 11 1/2 years Garcia made my day, my night and my life. He got me through a major illness, never leaving my side even when the nurses complained about him be unsanitary. Garcia never left my side, the nurses did.

Last year my brother, Lt Robert Cabral, a Swansea MA Police Officer, was killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver. Bobby accident happened at 12:44am, Garcia woke me up at 1am, crying and howling, My phone rang at 2:06am. It was my sister telling me about my brother and asking me to drive down to Swansea. Garcia stopped crying and jumped on the couch. He knew before me that my brother was dead.

I had to put my baby to sleep yesterday. He is now in the care of his Mimi and Uncle Bobby.

My heart is broken, my world is gone.

I Love you Papa..................until we meet again. The best boy in the whole wide world.
