Boner

My dog's name was Boner. I always said that if I knew I was going to love him so much I would have insisted that my son give him a more dignified name. Boner was a brindle pit bull/doberman mix. We adopted him as a pup in 1989 because my son wanted a dog.

I have to admit that I wasn't too crazy about the idea. But Bone soon endeared himself to me and I've never had a more loyal, loving friend. He was so intelligent, an excellent watch dog, but so gentle and laid back. He had a way of communicating to us exactly what he wanted. My son is away from home now so these past 3 years Boner has been my constant companion.

I knew I loved him but I never realized how much until I lost him suddently May 17, 2000 to acute pancreatitis.

As I brushed him one last time before I buried him a huge, beautiful yellow butterfly appeared out of no where, flitted around my face for 3 or 4 seconds, then was away and gone. I like to think that it was his sign to me that he had crossed over into doggie heaven safely.

I console myself with the vision of him in hot pursuit of a cat!
