Twinkie

AUGUST 25, 1986 - April 20, 2000

Twinkie, I can still see you when you were handed to me, a 4 lb., flea infested, mange covered pup. Some ignorant human had dumped you and your siblings at a construction site. Our neighbor discovered all of you; he helped find homes for all of you. You were our going gift from Ed when he left for the Navy, when our neighbor knocked on the door that evening and handed you to me, I feel in love instantly. We took you to the vet the next morning where Leah gave you the name Twinkie.

The vet said you were part yellow lab and part shepherd. Twinker, you became my confidant, when I needed someone to listen to me, you were always there, and you offered yourself to Leah and I when we needed to cry when Erica was so sick with leukemia.

From the time you were a pup you never moved out of the way when the phone rang, but somehow you knew when Ed was calling with an update on Erica's condition and you moved out of the way. At that point I would pick up the phone and say "Hi Ed". Ed wondered how I knew it was him as we do not have caller ID. You were a smart girl. You accepted the other dogs, Krimpet, Duchess, and Jake that we adopted.

You drove Dad crazy, you would only take your arthritis medicine with cheesecake and it had to be on a fork, not a spoon, you heard thunder long before we did and would try to get in my closet to hide. You watched Ed and Leah get married and start their families and you loved their children as much as you loved them. Leah's girls live close by. You just loved those girls as much as they loved you, you even let Amy teeth on your tail, and Jessica try to ride you like a horse.

I wish you do not have to leave us, but I know you are in a better place and not suffering, and you are with Erica who enjoyed spending her summers with us. Amy asked us for a locket for her birthday so she could put your picture in it, and of course we bought her one. Jessica has asked for one for her birthday in October and we also buy one for her. It is so appropiatite to name a star for you as Amy and Jessica looked up at the heavens to talk to you and Erica.

Twinkie we will always love you and miss you.

We will see you at the bridge,

Love
Mom, Dad, Leah, Amy, Jessica, Ed
