Beauregarde Butry
2/9/90 - 6/14/99
Mr. Beauregarde came to us in April of 1998 through Pug Rescue of Maryland
of which we are members. He had been forgotten by his previous owners...
they forgot he was there, forgot to feed him, forgot to let him outside,
forgot his thyroid pills, etc. When Pug Rescue received him he had lost
95% of his hair, had a horrible ear infection and had loss the use of his
right eye, plus he was terrified of men...Six months later we received a
call and met him for the first time. It was love at first sight.
In the
beginning he was strictly devoted to me, but with patience and a lot of
love on my husband's part Mr. Beauregarde finally accepted him.
For 14 months he was our "pretty boy" and our beloved "Grouchy Old Man"
of our pug threesome. On Sunday, June 13th, he sat next to my husband on
the sofa for well over an hour and basked in the glory of having being
petted, kissed and talked to. The next day, Monday, he spent the day
with me and the other pugsters, walking through the yard, barking at
butterflies, chasing birds. At 4:00 pm their dinner was served and
Beau got his normal dose of pills (thyroid, lasix) in his favorite treat.
By 7:00 he was panting slightly, I turned up the air conditioning and gave
him fresh water.
Within 2 1/2 hours, we were at the vet's office where
I work...his trachea had totally collapsed and he was bleeding internally
from what we believe was a tumor behind is missing eye. At 10:30 we knew
it was time to help him pass peacefully. Our veterinarians are wonderful,
compassionate people and helped us through this very tough time.
He is now with our little Katie,
who passed on 11/17/98. Rest in peace my sweet, sweet boy.
