Birth: March 24, 1986
Died: October 25, 1999
In September 1995, Atasha Jake won GRAND PRIZE in a Contest for the Milan Humane Society of Rock Island County "A No-Kill Shelter" Calendar and his picture appeared on the "Hard Cover Front Page". His picture was also on a sweatshirt and in the Humane Society of Rock Island County "A No-Kill Shelter" newsletter. I love my Jake.
Sadly, he had to be put down on October 25, 1999, because of his health and hip problem. It broke my heart and my heart feels empty without him. Jake, I am sorry and have no choice, but don't want to see his suffer and emotion through the wintertime. He died on my hands at 6:30 p.m. He looks very peaceful and I cried on him and said "Good bye, my baby". He doesn't have been alone and he joined with my oldest 17-½ years old housecat this year.
He was so sweet and a wonderful Collie mix. I will never forget him and miss him terribly now. He doesn't have any more pains and suffering. He is now resting a peace. Now he is in my heart forever and never forgets my beloved Jake.
13 years ago, I got him "FREE" and he had 7 lovely sisters and 2 brothers. I wish I had adopted all of them, but I picked one. I named him "Atasha Jake" instead of "Lassie", although he looked like Lassie.
I loved this dear dog very much and adored him so much. He had wonderful times with me on horse trail rides, riding in the car, moving 3 times, visiting with friends who have dogs, going to campgrounds, and visiting the shelters, 1st Annual Milan Pet Festival and dog shows. My nieces and nephews borrowed Jake for Pet shows at their schools.
His favorite activity was chasing airplanes, because we lived within 5 miles of the Moline Airport. He always listened for the planes and ran and barked when they flew over our house. That was his hobby for years.
When we buried him on the evening of October 25. I heard an airplane fly over his grave and I looked up at the plane, which reminded me "he loves to chase and bark at the planes". I could hardly believe it and thought to myself that he might join the plane up above.
God Bless Jake!
